In 1970 I was 14; it was a privilege to have the experience that I was given by my late uncle J. My uncle gave me a gift; 10 times we drove out west to the Black Hills, the Yellowstone and the Tetons National Parks. Then, so many sacred places that today at the age 53, I will never forget. The fresh smell of the air and how just being there felt. Seeing and living out west, not only from the cameras that took the photos, but the visual memory as well. These far off places stayed in head, and my eyes have this permanent sense that all the lands out west were and is a gift to all that can see and experience with their hearts to enjoy the serenity for a short time and/or for a day and then some.
I have to say that now I have gotten to see parts of Florida including the Gulf of Mexico. I use to visit St. Pete’s Beach where my grandparents lived, and I have to be honest, the heat was and is not for me, I have a rough time with heat. However, there’s something different about the State of Florida. I am not sure how to put my finger on this one. I’ll put it in a way like a person’s apendics; you know the little body part that no one really knows why it’s there. And, for sometime doctors didn’t have a clue either, as to why that little sucker was in us. All I know is that it’s important that it’s there, and it has a function, yet I don’t need to understand why. The State of Florida has a function regarding weather where the waters on the Gulf side also interact with the Atlantic side, and somehow the land mass also contributes to wild life. I mean there’s just so much that happens in the Gulf; and as kid I used to swim out to sand bars and walk these treasured areas looking for seashells and star fish. The waters were so clear I could see my feet. And, the water currents on both sides of the land mass called Florida also play a big part in the weather systems, the eco systems of the North American continent, and maybe the world. So, here we are as a nation that is supposed to be the land of the free. Yet, I have to wonder about the term that is used, “Government for the people and by people.” Because I see what is happening in the Gulf of Mexico, the oil spill that is so out of control, affecting so many livelihoods, destroying the natural wild life areas that are sensitive eco systems that help balance the varied wild life on the brink of a destruction. “We the people” will pay a price at the gas stations, at the food stores, more jobs lost; putting an end to the fishing industry in the Gulf of Mexico, and this is only a small part that we are seeing, the stone that was thrown into the pond causing the ripples is just beginning to wash ashore.
So, as I look at this scenario I have to take a stand here and now and ask PLEASE do not stop talking about Washington’s ignorance about, “We the people” and the government that is elected by these man and women who run the government, “by the people.” We are the people and we are being lied too. Something is terribly wrong… and this current oil spill is just one more thing added to the list of disasters like the Gulf War, Katrina, the bank meltdown, and so on.

I once saw a comedian Lewis Black on HBO who said, let me see, how did he say it? Um, it went something like, I thought they (the DC people) took us down the happy crapper, but I think it has gotten more ludicrous, it’s unbelievable how they F_ _ _ed us over. I’m not a scientist, or an expert about oceans, wild life or being a politician. However, the one thing I have known since I was only 10. And that is, I had about 300 acres in my backyard to play, hike and roam the hallowed ground. I didn’t know how lucky I was, on an organic level, as to what the earth is really about. And by the tender age of 14, standing at the edge of Jenny Lake, with the Tetons climbing toward the clouds and the seed that was planted by my great uncle J. who gave me the desire at the age 53 to see the scene all over again with my best friend and lifelong connection, who traveled those same roads as I did at age 14. This has been taken into my soul that I cherish and will never take for granted regarding what I learned at age 10.

Watch this and wonder where greed of BP, EXXON, SHELL, HALLIBURTON and the rest the OIL mongers help the little people !!! ???
